Herdade da Mata has a herd of about 60 animals to breed Garvonesa.
The Veal garvanês or singeing
The cattle Garvaneses, now regarded as a strain or variety of breed Alentejo, animals are indigenous to the solar origin of the border between the municipalities of Ourique and Odemira.
In the past have constituted important groups, both inside and in the Alentejo coast, with an area of distribution which extended the counties of Sines, Grandola, Santiago do Cacém, Odemira, Ourique and Castro Verde, involving in part on the traditional extensive system of production livestock.
The designation of these animals, due to their large numbers to the fair of Garvão and is referenced in some previous publications.
In the past, these animals did not have any specialized production, which were used to obtain offspring, and favorites in the region for its excellent ability to work.
